Who is our next contender? A Comprehensive PK Walkthrough for the Multi-Purpose Tripod (Part 1)

Want to travel light without traditional tripod, you can choose a light multi-purpose tripod. Before you take out your wallet, surely you will search up information of the tripods that you like, the ones recommended by your friends or the ones made by big companies, but it is still so hard to decide the best one you want to buy. (We feel your struggle so very much~)

What would your concerns be?
1.Easily portable?
2.Their functions all seem the same.Which one is better?
3.PRICE!!!
4.Practicality?

5.Is is as good as the ad?
6.Functional expansion?

Of course you may still have a truck load of questions, but choosing a tripod that belongs to you is the main key!!!

So let's introduce the tripods in today's competition

Contender Tripod No.1: TAKEWAY T1 Clampod

※Main structure made of aluminum alloy of aerospace grade
※Clamp load capacity 40kg (Ballhead load capacity 3kg)
※Main method is clamping. It can clamp on to tablets, pillars, whatever. Easy.

Contender Tripod No.2: JOBY Gorillapod SLR-ZOOM

Tripod in a one-piece compact sphere.
Flexible and bendy. It can wind on any irregular shape.
Mounting plate with level gradienter

Contender Tripod No.3: CX-3000

Multi-dial design

High stability when standing

When it comes to choosing this kind of light tripods, we have to consider the following.
1. Is it easy to carry? (needs to be small and light, otherwise what’s the point?)
2. Is it easy to use? (Simple and instinctive)
3. General stability after mounting the camera (DSLR tested)
4. Related expansion (best if it can be used in daily life scenarios)

To put it simply, would I want to take it out and would it be easy to get the tripod ready? The tripods need to stand long enough without collapsing (like a real man). And it needs to be easy to use (perhaps the most important thing people think about).

See below for the actual photos taken. May everyone keep calm and cool. All images were taken unbiasedly without cheating. You are welcome to come and have a go yourself!

(Test1.)Portability
Is it easy to carry? →"Weight"

The most attractive multi-purpose tripod is its lightness and portability. (To let everyone see clearly the actual size and weight, we have put in an IPhone5 for reference)

Is it easy to carry? “Size”

It even fits in a small carry bag~
More importantly T1 is very light! (otherwise we would want to carry it?)

Although the tripod can bend and fit in the bag, but it takes up a large space in the bag.

Although CX-3000 seems like a better size than JOBY above, but because it cannot bend, it takes some skills to fit it in the bag…

(Test 2.) Fix on a plank (thickness around30mm)

(1.)TAKEWAY  T1

(2.)JOBY

(3.)CX-3000 Metal Clampod

Fix on columns made of different materials
(Test 3.) Fix on columns

1. "Medium Column" (Diameter: 25.2mm)

(1.)TAKEWAY

(2.)JOBY

(3.)CX-3000 Metal Clampod

2. “Large Column" (Diameter around 32mm)

(1.)TAKEWAY T1

(2.)JOBY

There is an issue regarding how after putting on DSLR cause the tripod to shift downwards. This is because when you wind the “octopus tentacles” onto the column, there are small gaps between the tripod and the column (as indicated by the red arrow). After putting on certain weight, the tripod may shift downwards. And so stability and weight need to be considered altogether.

(Test 5.) Operation videos

Surely photos are not enough give everyone a good feel of the differences. So we are throwing in videos
below comparing actual operation and testing the stability of the tripods.

*Operation time

(1.)TAKEWAY  VS.  JOBY

Test results:
TAKEWAY T1 done in 16 seconds,  JOBY done in 39 seconds

(2.)TAKEWAY  VS.  CX-3000

Test results:
TAKEWAY T1 done in 16 seconds, CX-3000 done in 68 seconds

*Stability of tripod while bearing DSLR(around 1.4kg)

(1.)TAKEWAY

(2.)JOBY

(3.)CX-3000

~Based on the tests and videos above, we will give you a brief conclusion~

TAKEWAY T1
:

Convenient and easy to carry
Simple operation in short time
Very good clamping and stability

JOBY:

Bendable tripods but lack stability
Need to completely wind on objects to  stabilize

CX-3000 Metal Clampod:

Complicated operation
No stable clamping
Too heavy

Summarized from the comparison above

Portability-----T1
Clamping-----T1
Simple function---T1
